How to Start Your Project

1. Identifying an area of interest

I recommend finding an area in which you find enjoyable and is a hobby perhaps that you do for fun. A passion project should not merely be another commitment and something you “have” to do. It should be fun and enjoyable.

2. How will you orient your project?

There are countless ways to mold a passion project. For example, a project can be focused on community service, building profit, creating a website or blog, writing a book, teaching etc. I recommend picking several options that revolve around your interest and begin to narrow down what path you find most enjoyable.

3. Make a plan

Staying organized is key for success. A helpful tool is a planner in which to organize any materials and information necessary. A planner also allows you to set timed goals and deadlines which is crucial to the success of a project.

4. Outreach

The only way a project is able to grow is if it reaches others. A successful strategy for this is starting small, perhaps with friends, family, and within your community. Find outreach strategies that best fit your project. (I have included some options in the available full length guide)

How to Start Story Share

1. Find an organization to embed the program in

Story Share’s literacy program could benefit many types of organizations and countless people. I recommend researching organizations and businesses around you that could support this program.

2. Communicate the goals of the program

When meeting with your organization of choice for the first time, be sure to communicate your objectives and the purposes of the program. Talk about the benefits of the program and give details of session plans if asked. (Be open to flexibility)

3. Gather materials

Leading a group requires preparation and preparedness. Make sure to gather any materials that you want to bring to share with your group

4. Expand your horizon

Once you have established a solid foundation and gained confidence in your program, consider expanding its reach and impact. This expansion can be achieved through various strategic approaches, several of which are detailed in the accompanying guide.

The Buzzword!

Passion projects have become quite the buzzword. It’s a new requirement for college, it defines someone’s interest etc. Actually, passion projects are none of these, instead, they are an option for personal fulfillment and creative exploration. They are by no means a requirement for your future, however, if you are interested in beginning a project, I have made two guides. One includes tips and tricks on how to start a project from scratch. The second includes the details of my passion project and how one can adapt it to their liking.
